Oh no, not another "Disney" type dog movie. They always tend to glamorize a breed, and bring on everyone wanting one. Which means indiscriminate breedings to make a fast $$! The Bethovan's St. Bernards, and 101 Dalmations are probably the best examples. Turner and Hooch and Frasier's Eddie also are examples. And there was that Golden Retreiver movie this summer -- although I guess it's already like #1 popular breed so maybe not a good example.
From what I know of the Akita they also need a firm hand, not a breed for people who aren't going to put much time into looking after their pet.

I agree 100% and hope that doesn't happen. I have watched the japanese version(subtitles) and its quite good.
Akita's definetely need a firm hand. I read an article that described them as having your very own samurai warrior at your service. Strong, powerful, exceptionally intelligent, vigilant and protective. Though without a firm hand and plenty of work they will take over. Even well trained Akitas seem to feel more of an associate than servant. They are very a proud breed and don't feel the need to be dominant as they assume they are already. But from my experience with Akita's growing up, they can be very dog aggressive if not socialized ALOT. Like any breed they will take over if you allow them, the Akita is just a little more determined than most.
But in my opinion they make a great family pet, loyal companion.

It's my opinion that all the "tougher" breeds make the best pets in the right hands. But then, maybe I'm biased.

I think that is often an owner issue as well. Some owners with small pets seem to let them away with murder.

Whatever do you mean? "They're just being dogs," and "I wouldn't want to hurt them!"

LOL! Clearly, this is a big dog lovers forum! I still give my Charwlie Wawlie kissy wissies. Except, I have to wear full scuba gear or I would drown!
